"Non-Commercial Use"?

I have Ofice pre-installed on my new computer; I think it's the Home and
Student edition. The title bars of the office programs say "Non-Commercial
Use". I'm starting a home-based business, and will be using these programs
for it. I won't be using the programs on additional computers, and I'll be
the only one using them.

Am I required to upgrade to the Small Business edition, or is it allowed for
such small (one-person) companies like me to use the ones marked
Non-Commercial Use?

No, non-commercial use does not have an employee minimum, it means that it cannot be used in a commercial endeavor, period.
