Non-printing characters

Is there a way to print "non-printing" characters? For
teaching purposes it would be nice to be able to do a
print version so the students could see where the returns,
etc. are.

Not without way more trouble than it's worth except using a screen shot.

You would have to replace every space with a raised dot (except for the ones
at the ends of lines or else the line wouldn't wrap) and add a paragraph
mark to the end of every paragraph and a universal monetary symbol to the
end of every table cell. You'd have to find symbols to represent tab
characters and line breaks and insert them. You'd also have to replicate all
the other nonprinting characters described at
http://www.mvps.org/word/FAQs/Formatting/NonPrintChars.htm. A screen shot is
really the best approach.

(If you really do want to try, you could check out U+2192 for a tab --
inserting "real" tabs to place it --, and U+21B5 for the "soft return".)
