Non-printing characters?

Using Word 2007 for the first time and can't figure out how to display
non-printing characters. I live and die by these and need to find them!
Help!

In Word 2007, click on Office Button (that's the big round thing at the
upper left corner of the Word window)| Word Options | Display.

Ctrl+* still works.

And there is still a Show/Hide ¶ on the Home tab.
