Non-Western (Non-Latin) character sets

I have been trying to figure out for two weeks why one of our employees keeps
getting the message "This user does not accept emails in Non-Western
(Non-Latin) character sets". I have scoured the online forums and I have
looked in the tools options and International settings and made sure that the
encoding on his computer is set to Western European ISO. I've gone into his
junkmail settings to make sure that no addresses or lanuages are being
blocked. Nothing seems to be working. Please help.

Can you look at some of the original sent messages (headers) what
encoding they contain?

M

Is it mail the are initiating or mail they are replying to.
I have been searching for a similar problem, where my encoding changes only
the replies to emails that I receive. Those messages are encoded as Western
European. It makes no sense to me.

In response to your question Pat, yes these are not replies, but rather these
are the
original emails. They do not seem to go through and usually come back as
rejected messages. However only recently, something even stranger has
happened. There is still a reject message, but at the end of all the
headers, you can find a reply message from the person. They are getting it,
but when they send us a reply, we are getting their message plus a rejection
notice on the same email. It is very strange.

Let me rephrase that.

Our employee has not been able to send any emails out to those contacts
because his message gets rejected with the message (This user does not accept
non-Western, Non-Latin character sets). Under options, in the mail format
tab, I currently have Plain Text selected as my message format. Under
International Options I have checked the box for "Auto select encoding for
outgoing messages", and have chosen Western European (ISO) as the Preferred
encoding for outgoing messages. In the Internet Format tab, under Outlook
Rich Test options, should I select something else other than "Convert to HTML
format"?. What am I doing wrong???? Please help.

The Plain Text vs. HTML would have nothing to do with it.

Before we can decide what options to set, we must find what is
happening. Can you have the employee that is having this problem send a
copy of the outgoing message to you, or somewhere else where you can
analyze the headers, and see in what encoding it is sent?

alright I went through the headers and was able to fish bits and pieces out.
Before it displays the actual message that was sent it says

This is a multi-part message in MIME format.

------=_NextPart_000_002C_01C63787.644ABC90
Content-Type: text/plain;
charset="windows-1250"
Content-Transfer-Encoding: quoted-printable

With the Alstro, I want a big size if can. Something we can retail at =
7.99
or so. Cost should be landed here in Hawaii at around $4.25 at most.
Thanks Laura! We will continue to look for possible ways to send orders
your way!!!

It then continues on with the same messages that were sent and replied to
between our employee and his contact, except it is listed with all the html
scripting.

Am I getting warmer, or am I still missing something????

Go to "Tools", "Options", "International Options", uncheck "auto select
encoding for outgoing messages", "Western European (Windows), click "OK". I
have found this to correct this problem when creating 'new" emails on some of
my customers' computers. However, this does not correct the problem when
replying to email messages.

The bottom line is that this is a problem that Microsoft needs to correct.

Hope this helps,

Thanks for your reply,
It turns out that our employee is only getting the message "this user
does not accept messages in Non-Western (Non-Latin) characters, when he is
trying to send a reply or is trying to reply to a Re: message. Is there
absolutely nothing I can do on my end about this problem???? This is only
happening with only three or four contacts, and this employee has about a
hundred in his list. I am open to all suggestions.

Thank you,

When replying to a message, explicitly change the encoding to Western
European (ISO); this should be recognized by all mail servers as a
western encoding.

I too am having this problem but it just recently started. Is it possible a
malicious email changed something? I am using Word 2003 as my email editor,
could that have something to do with it?

Thanks!

Tools -> Options. tab Mail Format, International Options; what do you
have under Preferred encoding for outgoing messages?

M

mleeber

No check boxes and Western European (Windows). Have also tried Western
European (ISO) with and without checking the Auto Select encoding for
outgoing messages box and had the same problem.

P

Pat Willener

Unfortunately, when using Word as your email editor, you cannot see the
encoding of the message you are editing. So we don't know what you are
actually sending.

Can you send a copy of such a message to an account where you can
examine the headers, and see what the actual encoding is?

P

Pat Willener

I'm not sure if Hotmail lets you examine the full headers (I don't use
Hotmail, so I don't know).
