Nonbreaking space with goudy old style

H

Hilary Bowers

Good afternoon all. Word X V10.1.1 OSX10.3.3
I inserted a nonbreaking space (control+shift+spacebar) in a text block
using the font Goudy Old Style. On the screen I see a thin rectangle and
when I print there is NO space between the two words. Normal behaviour with
other fonts, eg Ariel. Any pointers appreciated.
Thanks
Hilary

Not much help, but I can repeat the behaviour you are seeing with Goudy
Old Style's non-breaking spaces. If I were that bothered, I'd simply
change the font of the non-breaking space to a font that works. Or use
Garamond for the whole thing, it is similar. If I were wanting
gazillions of nbs in Goudy Old Style, I'd make a macro. I thought about
autocorrect, but then the nbs would need leading and trailing space,
which would have to be removed. Ugly.

ps, thanks! I keep forgetting the ctrl-shift-space shortcut for nbs.
