Nonprintable Character in Query/Forms

Hi,

I have a form [autobilling] and an unbound element
[newbilldate] formated as shortdate. I run a query
referring to this field: Expr1: [Forms]![autobilling].
[newbilldate].

I don't see any content, unless I highlight the field and
nonprintable character show. If I don't set a format my
control works fine. I need the format to make sure users
type in a date.

Any ideas? Any answer is highly appreciated. Thanks
