normal.dat file problems - i want my normal template back...

Hi, I was hoping someone could help me.

When I open up Microsoft Office Word 2003, it displays a document with the
cursor at the edge of the top margin. When I select "View > Header footer >
close" it then shifts the cursor so that there is a clearance of about an
inch from the top margin.

What annoys me is that why doesnt word open up like that in the first place
(i.e. cursor positioned so that there is a clearance of about an inch from
the top margin).

It seems that word does not interact with the normal.dat file. I have:

1) gone to C:\Documents and Settings\<username>\Application
Data\Microsoft\Templates and renamed the normal.dat file, but this doesnt
seem to reset my normal template back to how it was before.

2) deleted this normal.dat file.. still doesnt reset my normal template

3) looked for normal.dat in other user profiles (there arent any)

3) reinstalled office 2003, still doesnt reset my normal template

Would anyone know whats going on? I just want my normal template back : (

any help appreciated!

cheers,
peter

In Word, click on Tools | Options | View | check the "White space
between pages" box | OK.
