'normal' - default template

when ever i open a new 'blank' document, i get a template
that was based on an old letterhead i used to use, i had
some problems with xp thi sweek and re-installed office
xp but now i have this problem with the normal template,
i just want a plain blank page, but it does not let me
change and save as the 'open' template?

can anyone help, it is so frustrating. This format also
transfers over to the new email document in outlook, so
its doubly annoying. I have tried following the
instructions in help, but it doesnt work
