Normal.dot already exists error

I keep getting an error when I close Winword or Outlook
that says "Normal.dot already exists. I am running
Outlook and Word 2002 on an XP system. Please help, this
is very frustrating!

I believe perhaps this happens when you try to open Word when it is already
open as an email editor for Outlook.
