Normal.dot corruption

Something is causing our normal.dot templates to become corrupted repeatedly.
We can recreate the problem. Word launches fine. We change the font and exit
Word. This writes a normal.dot file. We launch Word again, it creates a
~normal.dot file. We exit Word and the ~normal.dot file disappears. We launch
Word again, the ~normal.dot file reappears and we get an error and can't get
into Word until we delete normal.dot & ~normal.dot. In the error message,
both the AppName and ModName are winword.exe. Both the AppVer and ModVer: are
9.0.0.6926, and Offset is 0040ea0c.

Any help would be appreciated!

The temporary file starting with he tilde is normal operation: it is a
Windows locking file to make sure that no one gets access to it whilst you
are using it.
