Normal.dot default

Everytime I open Word 2003, my toolbars, macros, etc. are changed. I have
saved a copy of the Normal.dot (the correct one) on my desktop and up until
now I have just closed all the programs and deleted the old Normal.dot and
replaced it with the copy of the desktop and it has worked just fine.
Somehow, ALL of the instances of Normal.dot have defaulted to an OLD version
and all of my toolbars, macros, and settings are gone. This is not the first
time this has happened, but no one is able to tell me why and how to stop
this from happening.

Thanks.

If you are using Acrobat 7, see the section about Acrobat 7 on this page:

I have done this a million times. It does work, but when the Normal.dot
screws up, so does this macro.

What exactly have you done a million times?
The page I suggested mentions a dozen techniques...

Also, do you have Acrobat 7 or not?
If so, have you updated it?

I have Adobe Acrobat 8 Professional Version 8.1.2. I just went in to Control
Panel/Add Remove/Change and modified the Acrobat PDFMaker and made sure that
the Microsoft Office is marked with "This feature will not be available."
When I went back into Word, the custom toolbars I created are completely
messed up. I just don't understand why it doesn't stick.

I have not heard that Acrobat 8 has an effect on Normal.dot customization.

If you customize/create toolbars, and then those changes are lost the next
time you start Word, you may have a rogue add-in that messes with Word.
Remove all add-ins, if you still have a problem, then the problem is Word
itself... If not, bring the Add-ins back in one by one until you identify the
culprit.
