Normal.dot issue here? HELP

P

Paul in San Diego

XP Pro on a new installation, and using OFFICE 2000 Pro. Whole computer was
reloaded a month ago on a clean format and worked until just this week, just
fine.

Word opens and shows the mouse cursor but won't allow keyboard activity.
Wierd huh? Keyboard works fine with every single application other than
Word. I've heard of normal.dot becoming corrupt, is this the case here? The
menu bar up top is grayed out, can't click on anything.

Thanks in advance

Paul,

I have seen similarly 'strange' behaviors in Word due to virus infections
that alter / destroy / substitute normal.dot, etc. Considering that things
were working fine, then stopped, reinforces the notion of an 'infection'.

My suggestion would be to do a good anti-virus check of computer. If you
find the infection source, you can often find tools designed to clean-up the
mess they have made. If not, once the source is gone, you may have to
uninstall / reinstall Word (or even the office suite).
