Normal.dot issues

Chris

I am having an issue on a W2k3 Terminal Server with Office 2003 Pro. The
issue reappears every day without fail. I have uninstalled and
reinstalled(through add remove). I have recreated profiles, deleted the
template over and over, deleted temp files, deleted ghost lock files. I have
changed permissions and used the support template to delete the data file and
registry keys. I have followed every kb and suggestion I can find. I am out
of ideas and the client is running out or patience. It goes away almost as
often as it occurs. There are no add-ins, com objects or macros. Any and all
suggestons are welcome because this is driving me nuts! Thanks.

sorry about that..
upon opening word you get Word cannot pen the existing (normal.dot)
upon closing word you get the Normal.dot already exists. Do you want to
replace the existing file? And
Changes have been mad that affext the global template, normal.dot. Do you
want to save those changes.

That suggests that normal.dot is not in its correct location (as listed in
Tools, Options, File Locations) or the user has insufficient permissions to
create, edit and delete files in that folder.

Makes sense but the location of the template is in each users profile and it
appears that the permissions are correct. It happens to users in the local
admins group which at this point I have Domain admins and Domain users.

On one of the problem workstations, can you log in as the Administrator and
get it to work correctly?

Its on a Terminal Server and it does not matter who you log in as. I ended up
putting all users in the local admins group but it does not make any
difference, local or domain. Can a Macro in Excel possibly cause issues with
the normal template?

An Excel macro would not affect Word's normal.dot.

I still suggest checking this by logging in as the Administrator. There can
be a whole world of difference between a real Administrator and someone who
has Domain Admin permissions. Just try it for a stupid old man (me)!

I logged in first as a domain admin ant I got the template error. Then I
logged in as the local admin and I did not. So I guessing it's pointing to
permissions? Now the question...what permissions need to change?

I'm not the person to ask. Maybe an appropriate Windows server NG, such as
microsoft.public.terminal_services.
