Normal.dot much troubles

Hello i've been having tons of trouble with Normal.dot in Microsoft Word.
Basically whenever this file is created, microsoft word fails to open, only
by deleting or renaming normal.dot will word open again. However, after a
couple uses with word normal.dot is recreated again so i have to do the same
thing all over again. It was suggested to me that i rename the data folder in
the registry under word so that it could create a new data file in the
registry but this hasn't worked either. So please if anyone has a permanent
solution to end this problem i'm all ears, thank you for your time.

If you delete/rename normal.dot a new version will be created when Word is
opened, then that instance of normal.dot will be used.

Did you search for and delete *all* instances of normal.dot - sometimes
instances exist in various locations.

Have you run detect/repair in Word?

Yes i have run Detect/Repair and that hasn't fixed it. I've also uninstalled
Microsoft Office and Reinstalled, and that hasn't worked either. And i'm
pretty sure i've looked in all files hidden as well for normal.dot and
deleted them all, i don't know why this is still happening.

What version of Word are you running? The steps shown in the following
article are designed to help identify and correct precisely the kinds of
problems you're having:

http://word.mvps.org/FAQS/AppErrors/ProbsOpeningWord.htm

Usual causes:

1. Corrupted normal.dot

2. Corrupted registry entries

3. Corrupted/misfiring add-ins

4. Viruses

5. Corrupted Windows User profile

6. Damaged installation

If starting Word with the /a switch stops the problem from happening, then
that usually narrows it down to items 1 through 3.

Hi, Joe.

Whenever I am asked this question, I recommend using the search facility in
Windows to look for normal.dot. You will often find there is more than one
copy. You need to change the name of all copies to say normal(2).dot and
then reboot. Word then places a clean file in Templates.

Hope this helps.
