normal.dot Not Used When Creating a New Document

Today, when I went to create a new document, I noticed that my "new
document" had strange margins inconsitant with my normal.dot and the
page set-up. Page Set-up shows a letter size document (portrait) with
1 inch margins all the way around. The open document shows (in print
view) shows something shorter then a letter size document, and the text
box runs from the top of the physical page to the bottom of the
physical page. Also, there is no vertical ruler showing.

It has something to do with it being a new document. I have opened
older documents and the margins are as expected. If I open my
normal.dot, it appears okay. I checked the file location for
normal.dot and it looks correct.

Any suggestions?

Thanks!

Hi Don
It could be possible that you have two Normal.dot's. Sometimes Word
thinks it is being helpful and finds the first Normal.dot rather than
locate the one in the Templates folder.

when you create a new document click on Tools, Templates and Add-Ins -
the name of the template the new document is using will be in the
Document Template box at the top of the dialog box. At the bottom of
the dialog box there will be the full path of this template.

Find the template and delete it. If it shows as being Normal then you
may have two normal.dots. Click on Start, Search and search for
Normal.dot and delete the one you don't want. Also check the file
location again when you create a new document, click on tools, options,
File Locations and see what it says under User Templates. Perhaps it
is pointing to a different folder than the one with the corect
Normal.dot in it.
