Normal.dot problems

C

Cathy Smith

I am experiencing a problem with Microsoft Word.When I
try and open an existing document it says the document is
locked for editing by another user (which is not the
case) then when I try and close the document I get
another error message regarding the normal.dot file and I
can not save the file. I have researched this issue for
days on the microsoft knowledge base and have tried every
fix regarding the normal.dot issues but nothing is
correcting the problem. I tried uninstalling microsoft
office but half way through the uninstall I get a 2203
error message that says I need to contact product support.

Can anyone help!

The other usual suspect is the Works Suite Add-in for Word. If you have
Works Suite on your computer, try uninstalling the add-in from Start |
Control Panel | Add/Remove Programs.

Try deleting Normal.dot from Templates folder, it's probably corrupted. Word
will recreate it on next startup.

rename it rather than deleting it (with Word closed). This gives you the
same benefit without scrapping any customizations you may have stored in
normal.dot.
