normal.dot template

I do not understand what happens

when Word asks you if you want

to save or change the template. Often this happens
during a recovery of a document.

When I create a document, I have no clue what template I
am using,

and, what is the reason to choos a template ?

Thanks

By default, Word uses the normal.dot template, so if you have no idea which
template you are using - it will be that one!. If there are any changes that
could be reflected in that template you will (and should) get a prompt as an
invitation to save (or not) those changes.

Templates are layouts for individual types of documents. You will increase
productivity if you make good use of them.

If Word has crashed there, (file recovery?) will be lots of junk left lying
about of your hard drive that should be deleted or it could cause problems -
