normal.dot

Hi All,

I am using windows xp home sr2 and word 2k. I have been noticing that on my
recent files used list normal.dot is listed first. Is this normal? If not
how can I get it off the list? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks,

Thanks for replying to my message.
I checked and prompt to save normal is unchecked. In the list the path to
normal is documents and settings. Should it be there? Any help would be
appreciated. Thanks,

This is an indication that Normal.dot is being saved every time you close
Word. If you had "Prompt to save Normal template" checked on the Save tab of
Tools | Options (recommended), you would be prompted to save it. See “Word
prompts me to save changes to the Normal.dot template” at

That is the normal location for user templates including normal.dot.

You should have this option (to prompt) checked.

You should check the box and you should read the article I recommended to
find out why Normal.dot is being saved every time you quit Word.
