This is the one thing that has caused me the most aggrevation over the
past 6 years.
The more I read about it, the more confused I become. On my Win98Se I had
Works Suite with Word 2000 Word also has add-ins. I was constantly getting
messages about normal dot, global templates, read only files. Finally
someone fixed it somehow. I think they deleted the Word Ad-in or plug-in
and I never had that problem again.

Now I have a Windows XP. It did not come with Word pre-installed so I put
my Word 2000 on the system. I guess it put a partial Works 2000 on also and
the Word add-ins came in with the Word. I have a 30-paid software support
from Dell and they tried several things like removing the Word Add Ins from
Add/Remove, deleting normal then showing hidden files and deleting
normal.dot and even uninstalling and reinstalling Word to no avail. What is
the magic fix? Any help will be appreciated.

In addition. The last time word was unminstalled, normal.could not be found
and normal.dot could not be found when show hidden files and folders was
checked. Now that Word has been reinstalled, it still can't be found.

With Word 2000, normal.dot does exist.

Make sure the option to prompt to save changes to normal.dot is checked.
