normal.dot

my word from office2003 hang and I've to end it with task
manager, since then everytime I quit word "cahnges have
been made that affect the global template normal.dot, do
you want to save the changes" and I've tried the
following.
using word2003 support templates troubleshoot
utility, delete data registry key, startup option key (both
with registry editor too), rename normal.dot, delete COM-
addins, remove macros, clear word and office startup
folder,uninstall office and delete office11
folder,reinstall office,run WordFix from
http://www.gmayor.com.,disable Norton a/v add in,scan with
a/v,delete all temp folder and ~normal.dot with no avail.
But if I start word with /a key, it would close properly.
Experts are saying don't take out the battery from beeping
smoke alarm, but because of the way MS built Word, even if
I put in a new smoke detector it'll too keep on beeping
once I put in the bettery by checking the "prompt to save
normal template" on tool, options, save tab in word. So I
don't want to burndown the house and build new by going
after my whole C: drive. Any other solution? Feeling like
chasing my own tail which I don't have. Thanks if any
suggestions.

Have you saved the changes once? You need to do this to save the new
normal.dot, otherwise you will get this message every time.

Sorry for being so unclear, have you, since building the new normal.dot ever
answered "Yes" to that prompt?

Also, there can be .COM Add-Ins that don't show up on the .COM Add-In
dialog.

Follow up on .COM Add-Ins...

Hi Jerry,

Bob Buckland's FAQ article is a bit outdated. MS has created new sneaky
ways for COM add-ins to not show up in the dialog.

Check out the Help menu, "About Microsoft Office Word" > "System info" >
"Office Applications" > "Word" > "COM Add-ins".
I take bets you'll find something, and that it is guilty for dirtying
Normal.dot.
And there is also a good chance that it's an Add-in from MS.

Regards,
Klaus

The only COM-addin I found was from MS Map point and I
disable it,it's also showed as disabled items in word
help.

I have the MapPoint add-in and it doesn't cause this on my system.

Word 2003, Windows XP Pro, MapPoint 2004
