Normal.dotm autosaving question

Hello, I work IS from an organization.

The organization stores templates on a shared network drive.

A user wanted to configure his copy of Word so that when creating a new
document, he would be able to choose from these templates immediately rather
than having to navigate to the network drive.

I resolved this problem by going to the Word 2007 Ribbon -> Word Options ->
Advanced -> File Locations (near the bottom) -> and changed the default
template location to this drive.

This worked great and his needs were met.

HOWEVER, a new problem has arisen.

Whenever closing Word, and error is now thrown informing us that we cannot
save "Normal.dotm" to the default template drive.

This makes sense, considering neither of us has write access to the drive.

It does give an option to navigate elsewhere to save Normal.dotm, however it
is incredibly annoying to have to do this each time.

How can I fix this problem?

Let me know if additional information is needed.

You cannot share the Normal.dot file among multiple users in Word
http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=811468 This applies equally to
normal.dotm.

It would make more sense to allow the user to save his normal template
locally i.e. by resetting the user template location to his own work station
(in fact all users should have this setup) and have the company document
templates (not the normal template) from a network location using the
workgroup template facility. Thus each user can have his own local normal
template as intended.
