Normal.dotm macros

K

Karen

When I record a macro in Word 2007, I am never prompted, when exiting, to
save Normal.dotm and, sure enough, the macros are not there when Word is
restarted.

I have enabled macros in Word in the Trust Center.

Any ideas how I can record a macro and have it saved in Normal.dotm?

Click on the Office Button and then on Word Options and then on Advanced and
scroll down to the Save section of the dialog and check the box for "Prompt
before saving the normal template." You will then get a prompt to save the
Normal template if it has been changed.

In my case however, with that box unchecked, a macro that is recorded to be
stored in "All Documents (Normal.dotm)" is automatically saved in that
template in a module named NewMacros.

I have tried that and the option unchecks itself, it will not stay enabled.
When I record a macro it is in 'New Macros' but, once Word has been
closed..............and then reopened, the macro is gone. Normal.dotm is
not being saved, it is very frustrating.

My own home network, each computer has its own Word installation, the
Normal.dotm file is in User>>AppData>>Microsoft>>Templates. Nothing special
:(

Are you sure that when you accept the name that is assigned for the macro,
that it is going to be
stored in "All Documents (Normal.dotm)"

Yep, that's what it says..........if I could post an image I could prove it
but I do have Normal.dotm selected :)

I went into the Control Panel and chose to 'repair' Office 2007. Now my
choices to enable macros in the trust center is staying selected and so is
the prompt for changes to Normal. I was prompted one time only to save
Normal but the macro did not save to the template.

I'm open to any troubleshooting hints.

I fixed the problem with a workaround. Recorded the macro, went into VBE,
selected 'Normal' and saved it. Now it works so................the problem
seems to be that, for whatever reason, 'Normal.dotm' is not saving
automatically.

Karen,
I have the same problem and also found the same work around but... am
wondering if you were ever able to correct the initial problem. I do not
want my users to have to open and save in VB.
Thanks,
Denise

Karen,

I would like to have your problem. :) I do not use Word macros, but
almost every time I close Word, and I am warned that "The file is in use by
another application or user. C:\ . . . . . Normal.dot." Then it takes going
through three more message windows regarding Normal.dot and Normal.dotm to
actually close Word.

Thanks for the website addresses. I actually want Word to stop remininding
me that the Normal.dot template has changed when I close Word, so I leave
unchecked the top box in the Advanced | Save section of Word options. But,
Word still warns me when I close Word that the Normal.dot template has
changed, then I have to go through a series of three more windows to close
Word.

You DON'T want to start Word reminding you or it will save it without your
permission and that is even worse. You need to investigate why you are
getting the extra messages (there should only be one) and eliminate the
cause, to which end the links should help. It sounds as though you are using
normal.dot as an add-in?

Not sure why I am even being warned about the Normal.dot template. For 9
months on new Vista laptop, I never got the message. Then, after finally
installing Vista SP1 last week (I avoided doing so b/c Vista was working
great), I started getting the annoying message, although not every time I
closed Word. I never touch the template, and have no need to do so.

I have three other annoying problems occuring since installing SP1, but this
is the only one related to Word.
