Normal.dotm troubles

My wife recently updated from Office 2004 to Office 2008 on her
MacBook. For a while, she wasn't having any problems, but today she
started having a lot of Word formatting issues and problems with her
defaults. For instance, if she opens an existing Word doc from a few
weeks ago, it opens fine & text, text boxes, images, etc. are all in
the right place. But, if she tries to edit the doc, text boxes &
images won't "stick" where she moves them, her image defaults are all
wrong (when drawing a line she now gets a thick blue line instead of
the thin black line she used to get). Opening a blank Word document
from scratch and trying to work with these items yields the same
results.

She already tried editing her existing normal.dotm file & saving it.
That seemed to clear up her issue with image defaults (now she gets
the thin black line she's used to), but things like positioning text
boxes & images on the page still don't work correctly. The text
boxes, images seem to move around at will as she adds text to the
document, or in some cases when she saves the document.

She is using Microsoft Office 2008, version 12.1.5.

The issue here is that she does not understand the difference between
"Floating" pictures and pictures that are "Inline with text".

However, since I am not sure what else is on the page, and how she has set
the document up, I can't give you a simple answer as to which is best...

See if the Word Help topic " Position a picture anywhere on the page" is of
assistance...

Cheers
