When i shut down word it pops up saying "Normal file already exists. Do you
want to replace this file?" then after you deal with said pop up it then tell
me that "Changes have been made that affect the global template, Normal. Do
you want to save those changes?" Since the pop ups have started i cannot open
any word file, i have tried uninstalling and reinstalling and it still
happens. Please help!
Thanks!

Reinstalling Word (or Office) rarely does anything except waste time because
Add-ins, custom Macros or templates are not replaced or removed.

The primary cause of that problem is frequently Norton Anti Virus: if you
have NAV, open it and under Preferences, disable the Office Plug-in. If it
isn't NAV, then it maybe any other add-in that is present or your normal.dot
maybe corrupt.

Launch Word using the /a switch by using Start, Run and typing in

winword /a

and pressing enter. Does Word open and close properly when using this
switch? If Word is OK, then look from third party add-ins or possibly
normal.dot is corrupt, rename it as normal.bad.

You can't permanently change the name. Word will generate a new normal.dot
whenever you start it if it can't find an old version. You have to look to
what is corrupting your normal.dot. That is why you were advised to unplug
the Norton AV plug-in and check on Add-Ins.
