Normal.pub

below is the help file from Publisher 2002 (XP) however i have neither
of the OSes listed I'm using Windows XP - anyone know where to save
the normal.pub file so it always uses Arial instead of TNR.

I have tried saving in the normal template location which did not work
and these two suggestions listed are not available.

Many thanks

Ron

In the Save in box, click your root drive. On most computers, the root
drive location is drive C.
If your operating system is Microsoft Windows NT or Microsoft Windows
2000, navigate to Profiles\<Username>\Application Data\ Microsoft
\Office.

If your operating system is Microsoft Windows 98, navigate to Windows
\Application Data\Microsoft\Office.

In the File name box, type Normal.pub, and then click Save.

See http://ed.mvps.org/Static.aspx?=Publisher/normal.pub

I'm curious as to where you found these instructions.

Hi Ed,
I just typed "styles " into the help space and followed "work with
text style" then set text style for all publications"

However no mention is made of where to save Normal.pub on the Windows
XP OS. I've tried the usual template location but that does not work

Many thanks for any ideas you may have.

The only "workaround" I've got to work is to create the styles in a
blank document and save the document as a template then base all
future documents on that template - the drawback is that to create or
edit styles you need a text box in place - then create the styles then
delete the text box before saving as a template.
It works but is a bit clunky. Obviously once the template is created
then further templates can be built based on documents created from
the original.

It's interesting that the help is so out-of-date. Did you leave feedback?

See the first part of my earlier post.

See the first part of my earlier post.

Thanks for the help Ed - that worked just fine. It appears that MS for
whatever reason did not keep the help files fully updated.
Does this solution work OK on networked PCs. I only ask as I have
changed the template location on the network to save templates to a
drive/folder on the server. I assume as this is not a template
Publisher seeks "normal" from the app data /MS/office location. If I
want it on the network for ALL users I would need to use my solution
OR set up "normal" on all PCs

If you were to set up Application Data to be on a network location for
all PCs, then Publisher would take the settings from the networked
location. Otherwise you'd have to roll out normal.pub across the network.

Note that the usual health warning applies: you may be taking your life
into your hands if you edit Publisher files directly across a network
connection. We recommend always opening from and saving to your local
hard drive, and copying to removable media and network locations once
Publisher is closed.
