Normal style

Are you allowed to direct apply attributes to the style,
Normal? I have plenty of opinions, but need WORD's rule
on this. Thank you.

Hello Janice,

Your question as I read it is "Are you allowed to direct apply attributes
to the style,
Normal?" You can change the formatting of any style. Here are the different
issues.

Is the change permonant?

For that document? Yes, this is saved to that document only unless you
place a check in the "Save to template" This will apply the changes to the
template if the template is not being used at the moment. Under normal
conditions you are using Normal.dot and this cannot be changed when in use.

Changing Normal.dot. If you would like to change this in the Normal.dot you
can open a new Document and make the changes to the Normal Style and then
save the file as a Word Template "Name.dot". go to the folder that contains
Normal.dot and rename the file to .old. Rename the newly created template
to Normal.dot and re-open Word. You should see the changes to the Normal
Style.

You need to keep in mind that a Style is just a formatting template inside
the Normal.dot template.

Please let me know if this answers your question.

Thank You
