normal template changed

Somehow we have managed to change the normal template in
word 2000.
This is not a terrible problem, since we just select all
and delete each time we open a new document, but boy
would we like to save the blank document back as the
normal.dot.
I have tried to just save one as normal.dot, but it tells
me that it cant because the normal.dot is open. Which it
is...
How can I change the normal.dot???
