Normal template is not loading?

I have serious problems with Word 2003. For whatever reason the Normal.dot
template is NOT loading. I have tried to delete it in order to force Word to
create a new one but it doe not work. I can load the normal.dot template when
I open it as a file but whenever I open Word it does not load the Normal.dot
template.

I would appreciate any suggestions.

Word 2003 behaves differently from previous versions of Word. After a new
installation, there is no normal.dot created until such time as you make a
customisation that needs to be saved - such as changing the default Page
Setup or Default Font. So after deleting normal.dot, a new one is not
generate until you make a change.

Another possibility though is that you have a rogue normal.dot lurking
around. Search your hard drive for normal.dot making sure that your have
included system and hidden files and that extensions are not hidden.

When you say "normal.dot" is not loading, do you mean you want Word to start
with a new blank document open, rather than with no document open?

If so, you would need to start Word with a /w switch. You could add this to
the properties on your desktop icon/shortcut for Word, or type it into start
run as winword /w

Normal.dot then it sits behind your session of Word whether or not Word
starts with a document open, there shouldn't be any reason for you to open
the template itself and make changes.
Hope this helps.

Thanks for the suggestions. The problem is that there is one normal.dot
template in the directory Word suggests, which has the correct formating -
it just does not get loaded upon opening word 2003.

Is this the normal.dot that was created by that installation of Word2003 or
is it a 'standard' you have tried to copy from other source?
