Normal Template--Toolbars

Clark Murray

How do you prevent the Normal template from being automatically updated when you save a document with a certain set of toolbars? It seems like every time I turn around I have to remove some extra toolbars (usually web and reviewing) because they were used in some document I received.

Make sure that you save the customizations to the document rather than to
normal.dot.

From the FAQ posted on August 1:
11. How can I get rid of that ^$#*@& web toolbar?

And in Word 2000 you can go to Tools, Options and on the Save tab there's a
checkbox that says "prompt to save normal template." If I'm not mistaken
that will ask you if you want changes you've made saved to normal.dot--and
will give you the opportunity to say no.
