normal template

How can I track/check which 'normal' template word is
opening with when multiple normal templates are available?
Then, how can I specify which of these I wish to have
word open with?

Unless you have multiple users or multiple versions of Word on your computer
you should not have multiple normal.dot templates.

The one that will be opened is the one in the folder designated as the user
templates folder under Tools => Options => File Locations.

This is what I learned, maybe you try it out.

Search order for templates:

1. Same directory as the document itself
2. Path of dot in Extras - Templates and AddIns
3. Directory of Usertemplates
4. Directory of Workgrouptemplates (see options)
5. Directory where winword.exe is

Hi Pia,

I think you are talking about the search order for an attached template, not
the search order for normal.dot. Word has to find or create normal.dot
before it even thinks about dealing with a document.
