Nostalgia Time!

Does anyone remember a Mac spreadsheet program by the name of WINGZ? If
so, do you know what ever happened to it? Not to slight Excel, but @
the time Wingz was a revolutionary piece of work.

Wingz only lasted about a year I think. Back in the days of OS 6.5 I think.

Revolutionary indeed, but never got sufficient market share to challenge the
MS juggernaut. Simply squashed out of the market. I think some of the bits
were revived and melded into ClarisWorks, which eventually of course became
AppleWorks.

Yes. I have a set of 3 1/2" diskettes with WingZ from Informix Software
Inc, and a full set of manuals, from 1988. I think it's version 1.x (or
something like that). It's still installed on the HDD of my Power
Macintosh 7200/90, which isn't operational at the moment - no keyboard,
mouse ot monitor attached.

I was using the Wingz spreadsheet on a Performa 475 with System 7.1 in
1997. And yes, it was very easy to use.

Informix Wingz ($399) won an award in the Second Annual Byte Award
Winners of 1990. Two years later, the 1992 Byte Readers Choice Award for
Spreadsheets for Mac went to Microsoft Excel for Macintosh.

Informix continued to make a Wingz spreadsheet for Windows. You may be
able to find a copy of their home page on The Way Back Machine.

Thanks for the replies! Good to know I'm not the only one who remembers
it. I attended the initial roll-out in the Balto/D.C. market and still
have the promo materials.

Simply was curious, but guess I shouldn't tie up the line with
"non-related issues".
