Not a Personal Files Folder

I purchased Outlook 2007 with Business Contact Manager. I have saved my old
..pst file to a cd and moved it from an old computer to the new computer I am
not using. I saved the old .pst file to my desktop. I have renamed the new
..pst file so I could copy the old .pst file to the outlook folder for when I
open up outlook. Everytime I open outlook it says I cannot use my file
because it is not a Personal Folders file. I have backed out of it and am
using the new .pst file with no contacts and no calender info. Outlook works
just fine, but I would like to get my old .pst file in so I can use it. I
went to my old computer and it looks like the old .pst file is called an
Officd Data File. How can I make this office Data file a Personal Folder
File so my new outlook can have all my contacts and calendar info? Thanks in
advance.

BAD move. Never place an old PST into the default folder where Outlook
creates its PSTs. You run a risk of damaging thr mail profile and what you
describe is exactly how to damage it.
Everytime I open
outlook it says I cannot use my file because it is not a Personal
Folders file.

Did you remove the read-only attribute after copying it from CD to the hard
drive? If you put it in another folder, like My Documents\Outlook, can you
then startr Outlook and open that PST with Office Button>Open>Outlook Data
File?

Office Data File is the same thing as Personal Folder File.

It appears to me that the file is NOT read only. I see this when I right
click the old pst file and the Read Only attribute is not checked off. As
for opening the file in outlook with "file/open/outlook data file" when I
double click the old pst file I get a microsoft outlook yellow triangle
warning box that says "The file c:\Documents and
settings\ann\desktop\outlook.pst is not a personal folders file"

Then it has been damaged enough that Outlook will not be able to read it.
You may have some luck with a commercially-available PST recovery tool.
Google for "(office OR pst) recovery"
