Not able to Copy or Paste in Word 2003

I have never seen this before, but ...I was using Microsoft word 2003. I
selected text and copied it, however nothing would go on the clipboard...So I
obviously could not paste.

I was able to copy and paste in Excell and from Excel to word, but nothing
would copy in Word.

Any suggestions would be helpful

Run a scan for Trojans and viruses. (Windows Defender is good for Trojans
if you have XP or Vista. Avast is good for viruses. Google for free
on-line scanners.). After that, try running system file check from a
command prompt (vista requires an "Elevated" command prompt to run SFC
(system file check).

This is frequently the result of a bad third party add-in. Typically
anything from Adobe, Symantec and particularly Clipboard add-ins in Windows.
Try starting Word in Safe Mode and see if it works which will prove if it is
an add-in.
