Not able to open a word v. X file in word 2004

Maurits

Hello,
Recently, I have installed word 2004 and uninstalled word v. X. In the
latter one I have created loads of files. However, I cannot open them
by doubleclicking a random word file:
via the dock I get the following message: 'You cannot open the
application "MS Word" bebause it is in the trash. To open this
application, move it from the Trash.'
via the finder I get another message: 'The operation could not be
completed. An unexpected error occurred (error code -10660).'
Nevertheless, I CAN open a file directly via word 2004. I go to
file>open> and then it pops up in the new wordprocessor.
Can someone explain this difference? Could it be that the word v. X
version is still the default wordprocessor? Anyway, the same thing
occurred with the test drive. I thought that the regular version
wouldn't have this inconvenience.

Hi Maurits:

I *think* that means that you trashed Word v.X then installed Word 2004.
Word v.X remained the default word processor and it will not run because it
is in the trash.

Empty your trash then try Beth's suggestion.

cheers

Hi, I immediately have changed the settings via finder and indeed, it
works! Whereas, I haven't done anything wrong with the installation.
First, I've installed office 2004 and then uninstalled office v.X;
that last action I've done with the uninstall programm which is on the
cd; might this be a bug?
Anyway, thanks to both of you it's solved! Thank you Beth and John.
Greetings Maurits.

If you used the Uninstall program after installing Office 2004, which one
did you use?

If you used the Office 2004 Uninstall "Remove prior versions" and got into
this condition, it's very definitely a bug.

Cheers
