Not able to publish to website

I have been using publisher 2003 for my website without any trouble. I then
changed to publisher 2007 with a vista o/s and it work great. Last week I
had to image my drive and reinstall publisher. Every time I go to publish
now I just get error messages and cant even get to my login screen. So I got
fedup and put 03 back on and hey works great!! I would like to use o7, maybe
I am not putting the information correctly?? I went to the self hep online
and that was know help so here I am.

Ok, I am able to upload to the server via FTP and its working now but I want
to use HTTP. The error message says check my ulr....hmm I am using the same
address via http in 2003 and it works.

In order to load using http, Front Page Server Extension (FPSE) must be
available with the server and enabled. I had the same problem and found out
through the server that the FPSE username was different. Once I got that, I
was finally able to upload. Also, when using http with 2007, it will not
automatically replace index.htm if it's already in place. You have to move
it or delete it. What's the URL?

When you publish via FTP you break the FPSE and have to reinstall or have
them repaird to publish via http:// method.

Ok, so here it is. I put publisher 07 on 2 computers running xp and using
the same pub file I was able to publish via http. I then tried the same
thing on two seprate computers using the same pub file on vista 32bit O/S and
they all failed to publish via http.

I truely am not happy with publisher 07 and may need to go back to 03 for
obvious reasons.

Your thoughts are welcome.

Unless I am reading your facts wrong, the problem is not Pub 2007 or 2003,
it is Vista...and IE7 which comes with Vista. Is that correct? This would be
consistent with a pattern that seems to be developing.

Here is part of a post from Ted 2/2/08:
"I have been working with Microsoft Publisher Support about this problem and
they gave me a download (see article KB907306) that solves part of the
problem. With this download I can "Add a Network Location' from "Computer"
and then after clicking on the icon and entering my logon information , I
can drag and drop my files onto the web site. I can not, however, publish
my
web site directly from Publisher. They supposedly are working on this part
of
the problem. I'll let you know when I get further information from them.
Here is the link:

"

It appears to me that at this point there is a problem with HTTP uploading
protocol with Pub 2003 and 2007 when the operating system is Vista. FTP
uploading still works in both, but Vista requires a variation.

So, my question is the problem you are having uploading unique to Vista? Can
you upload with 2003 and 2007 on XP?

Thanks for the support! Just for clairafacation, Publisher 2003 & 2007 work
fine on XP sp1-2. Publisher 2003 works fine on Vista 32bit. Publisher 2007
is not able to publish via http on a Vista machine.

Yes I agree it looks like a pattern that should be tracked.

Thank again for your support

Ok I have the same problem as Ted. The download fixed part of my problem but
I am still unable to upload via http with a vista machine.

OK...I will do some more research, but if the info Ted gave us is true, it
may be that the fix will have to come from MSFT. Some more points of
clarification....Do you have IE 7 or IE 6 on the XP machines? Do you get
anything other than "check the URL" as an error message...the more exact the
better.

For the short term, you can have both Pub 2003 and 2007 installed on the
same machine. I usually recommend that you install the older version first,
then do a custom install of the 2007, and install it in a different folder
than 2003...just call it Pub2007 or something like that. And if you are
asked if you want to overwrite the old version, say no. Then with both
versions installed you can open the Pub 2007 file in 2003, and upload via
2003. There shouldn't be a problem.

Please get back to me as to my questions, and I would really appreciate it
if you would also report anything new that you find out. I will work at this
from my end and hopefully we can come up with a solution quickly.

Thanks.

The XP Machines are running IE7. The error messages says (Publisher could
not save the file to the web check your ulr or network connection and try
again) Publisher 07 is now crashing when trying to upload to website. after
installing the following patch
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/...12-632E-4C04-9382-987622ED1D64&displaylang=en

See below for details

Not being the expert I will stick with what works for now and will continue
to work the issue with my limited resources.

As always thanks again and let me know if you come up with anything.

I am having the EXACT same issue - running Publisher 2007 on Vista and can no
longer publish web site directly - I could when I was using Publisher 2003.

Any update to this? Has MS come out with a resolution?

There really has been no progress on these issues that I know about.
However, MSFT just released the SP1 for Vista, and it MIGHT help. I stress
might because I have read nothing specific. Be advised also that I have not,
and will not install Vista in the near future...I prefer XP. And I am
generally hesitant to install patches from MSFT, knowing that on occasion
while they fix one thing, they break something else. Color me either
cautious or paranoid. So, read up about the SP1, and then perhaps install
it, and let us know if it makes any difference. Good luck.

Hello Dave,

I have installed Vista service pack one with no change in publisher 2007,
what I can say is that I did notice many smaller o/s issues get a whole lot
better and a speed increase.

I have found no clear answere to why publisher 2007 is not publishing on a
vista machine.

Thanks

D

DavidF

Thanks for the update. At this point I think the directions for uploading
via HTTP from a Vista machine have to be inferred from the directions for
FTP uploading from a Vista machine: Prepare, publish, and maintain your
Publisher Web site:
http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/publisher/HA100947601033.aspx?pid=CH100793391033
It sounds like if you "map a network drive via Computer" as in the
directions for FTP uploading, but use an HTTP address, and then direct
updates to that connection via Computer when you Publish to the Web, might
work....but I haven't tested it, and haven't gotten any feedback from anyone
that has tried it. If anyone does, let me know.

My suggestion to anyone that is having problems with HTTP uploading from a
Vista machine is to read the above article, and if you aren't able to solve
your problems, then at the bottom of the article you have the option of
telling MSFT whether it was helpful or not. Please submit that it wasn't,
and that we need more clear directions on HTTP uploading from a Vista
machine. Maybe if enough people keep doing this, they will update the
instructions.

Glad I'm not the only suffering soul...I'm not sure that it's Vista, but
rather Pub07, because I tried uploading from 07 with Vista and get the "check
your URL". But, I can move the file to a computer running XP and 03, and it
loads right up for me. Now, I got a new lap top with XP, and put on 07...to
get the "cannot connect to the ftp server". If I try HTTP, it does nothing
at all...no prompt for a password

D

DavidF

Michelle,

I don't pretend to understand it all, but I would guess that you have IE7 on
your new XP computer, and that means FTP uploading has changed from when you
used IE6.

Reference: Prepare, publish, and maintain your Publisher Web site:
http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/publisher/HA100947601033.aspx
It is written for Pub 2007, and if you are using IE7 instead of IE6, then
the directions for using Vista and FTP uploading would apply.

If you aren't using a form on your site, then I would suggest that you
consider downloading and installing
the free FTP client FileZilla: http://filezilla-project.org/ It is likely
to be easier for you. When you Publish to the Web direct your output to your
local computer and then use FileZilla to upload the index.htm file and the
index_files folder intact.
