Not enough memory or disk space error

I have installed Office 2003 SBE on a pc with XP Home. At first Office
was ok, but it now will not load Word, Outlook, Publisher or Excel. It
seemed to start after accessing some old Office 97 files. The error
with Word is "not enough memory or disk space". Excel loads but
generates an error report to send to Microsoft and then closes.
Outlook and Publisher just do nothing. The only application that works
is Powerpoint!

I have tried the usual with Word, renaming the normal.dot and also
deleting some of the registry keys but it still will not load.

I have also removed and reinstalled Office.

Any clues?
