I have been experiencing the same trouble as Kalenta(post 10/22/08). I cannot
open any Office 2007 application. I have XP/SP3 on a 1.5 ghz Intel Centrino.
I have approx 1.6 gb of my equipped 2 gb available, and 8 gb of my 30 gb C:
drive available.
This began after I had to restore my system from an external backup file(due
to a spyware bug that I could not get rid of) on 10/11.
I ran Office Diagnostics which found 1 problem which it "fixed", but did not
help. Subsequent diagnostics are NTF repeatedly. After the initial diag, I
linked to Office Online Diag help. It said it was unable to access a
"required file" for the 'Update Diag', but the 'fix' requires one of the
Office apps to be opened which I can't do. I have removed Office and
reinstalled from disk, to no avail. I tried downloading Office SP1 update,
that fails with a message "cannot access file that it needs..."
(paraphrased). I have gotten into the system log files in the C:\windows
folder. I found a log from 10/12, (during a Windows update dnld, I think)
that references 13 different xxxx.cab files that "do not exist". I suspect
file corruption or loss during the restore.
Related to my Office problem? What can I do? I apologize for the length of
this post.
