I have windows XP and Office Small business edition 2000. Since I have
upgraded to xp, I have problems opening publisher files without getting the
dreaded "not enough memory to display picture". Then the printing function
also doesn't print the file correctly. I have tried these files on other
machines with the same set up and received the same error no matter how much
ram is installed (from 256 meg to 1 gig). When I run it on a machine that has
windows ME 256 meg ram and office 2000 the file opens normally. Problem is
all of my machines are now upgraded to XP. The file sizes range from 1 meg to
3 megs . none of these are very large files, does anyone have a suggestion?

I already tried this and it didn't work. ANy other suggestions? can it have
to do with some issues with office 2000 being older then windows XP?

Office 2000 will perform correctly on Windows XP. Do you have Norton?

Have you changed printers? Disable your default printer, try to open the file.
Do you have XP drivers for your printer?
Can you open the file in safe mode?
Disable detailed display view in Publisher, View, pictures, tick hide pictures.

In Windows Explorer, right-click a troublesome file, copy,
Click Start, click Run, type in the Open box
C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office
Right-click the Mspub.exe program file, and then click Paste

All these methods are described in this article.

I have norton system works 2005 which is not one of the listed programs. also
my norton programs are updated automatically. when I tried to update it it
said it was already current. I am using a HP colorlaserjet 5m and have been
for at least 7 years. XP had drivers for the printer and it works with all
programs including office. in publisher only part of the picture displays on
screen and prints the same way. I have tried to open it in safe mode and I
still get the same error. I have tried to go to lesser resolution in view and
even turned pictures off completely, still get the error. I will try the
explorer idea and post again.

I tried explorer and still had the same error. But i did notice when I went
to non-display picture mode I did not get the error until I tried to print. I
think it has to do with the background "picture" which is really an autocad
drawing shrunk and placed in the background. the pictures display fine, it is
the background autocad drawing that seems to be messing this program up.

I'm also using an autocad 2006 product. I used to use a 2002 product.
