OK, how about revealing how much RAM your system has? Keep in mind that
Leopard & Office each require 512MB so if you have less than 512MB
*available* when you launch Excel it would explain the message. IOW, you
really need an absolute minimum of 1GB RAM - preferably more.

If you need additional assistance please submit a new message with a
slightly different Subject rather than continuing entanglement in this old
thread. Make sure to specify your exact update levels of Office & Leopard.

Bob, thanks. I think this is the information you required.
2x 1GB DDR2 SDRAM 667MHz
Excel 12.1.5
MacOSX 10.5

Excel worked fine for 4 month, then problem started on opening workbooks.

Any other suggestions much appreciated

If that info is accurate the problem may be that your install of OS X is not
up to date 10.5.*6* is where it should be. Make sure you're fully updated,
run Disk Utility - Repair Disk Permissons, then restart your Mac.

If the problem continues log out, then log back in while holding the Shift
key. Also, try running Excel in a new User Account. Reply with the results of
each effort.
