Not getting mail from one address

Version: 2008
Operating System: Mac OS X 10.5 (Leopard)
Email Client: pop

I'm not receiving email in Entourage from one particular address. I'm mystified by the combination of events and don't know whose tech support to contact. Here's what's happening:

His email doesn't show up in Entourage or in my ISP's Webmail site. There's no indication that it's been siphoned off by a spam filter or junk filter in either place. Unless there's some invisible spam filter I can't find. I've put the address on the Safe list in both places.

The emails do show up on my iphone, and in the Mail program that was bundled with the computer. Both of these are set to never remove mail from the server, and both are normally turned off.

The sender does not get a bounce message of any kind.

Any ideas out there?

99.99% of the time, it meas that the sender is sending e-mails from an
SMTP server that is blacklisted by your e-mail server.

Ther is nothing you can do about it.
The only way around is to get your ISP to whitelist the server again
(good luck :-( ).

while what you say is true Corentin, in this case the OP states that the
mail is appearing in mail.app and on the iPhone, just not in Entourage
(if I have read the OP correctly).

my guess is a rogue MLM entry - look in the Mailing List manager and see
if there are any entries in there relating to this person's email
address. If there are, delete them. If not, then do a search (in
Entourage) for any items containing his email address and see if they
are being mis-filed by something. if they do show up in some unexpected
place, write back for more pointers.

I had missed that. What caught my attention was: not in Entourage *and*
not on the ISP webmail.

Well what I don't understand then, is why it would show up on an iPhone
but not on the ISP webmail page...

In Entourage 2008 the top search bar is a Spotlight search. Enter the
address and select "All Messages."

At last....someone else has the same problem. I have a similar issue......My
iphone, my pc using outlook and webmail see a message whereas entourage
doesn't see it!

I have noticed that the last 2 messages from Amazon have appeared in all my
devices inbox's except entourage on my Mac. All other syncing works
perfectly. There are no rules, no junk filter and no other blocking systems
in place.

Any ideas would be much appreciated!

Is it possible one of your accounts is deleting from the server? Is it just
Amazon messages, for example, that are not getting through, or is it all
messages to that account?

Strangely it appears to be only Amazon & Nike messages. The messages always
remain on the exchange server and can be seen from my pc & iphone. Entourage

Have you done a search for these messages? I'm wondering if they are being
re-routed from a Mailing List Manager rule. The Mailing List Manager rules
run first.

There aren't any rules set but I will try an indepth search to see if
they're are lurking elsewhere!!

Thanks for your suggestions.

Another option that will help eliminate sources of your problem is to create
a new Identity in Entourage and enter the account that received those
emails. Set to leave on server for the test. Does the new Identity see the
emails? If yes, then it's something in your Identity that is causing the
problem. It doesn't sound like database corruption, but you could make a
duplicate of your Identity and rebuild it to see if that clears the problem.

Let me know what you find.

Hi, Thanks for your message but there is no junk filter set.
Over the past couple of hours I have reformatted the Mac book and
reinstalled Entourage and guess what....it still doesn't show any messages
from the 2 senders!

What happens in a new Identity?

Diane,

A new identity still doesn't see the messages. The PC, iphone & Mac are all
"pulling" messages from the same exchange server so I'm not sure what's next
to try!

I've been following your additions to this thread and I simply don't
understand how Entourage could be selectively ignoring messages. You've
tried all the troubleshooting methods that practically eliminate
Entourage as the problem.

However, I'm not one to doubt what others tell me they see. Could you
possibly forward one or two of these messages to me? I'd like to see if
I can reproduce your problem. Be sure to forward the entire message as
an *attachment* and don't just simply forward.

You'll need to unmunge my E-mail address.

Thanks!

I received your two examples, Golfwiz, and I reproduced your problem
with my Exchange account but not my IMAP account. You said you're using
Exchange too, so this is probably specific to Exchange and/or WebDAV
connections.

Wouldn't have believed it without seeing it.

I'm forwarding to someone at MacBU for investigation.

Having started this thread, I thought I should report the outcome of my original problem. The solution was pretty idiosyncratic so it may not help you. Here's what was happening:

I had recently changed my DNS and email host. It took me a while to get everything pointed to the new host and I had not yet closed the previous account. The crucial piece of information was that the problem email address was hosted by my previous host. They were running his emails through an internal system that found my IP address there and directed the email to that. The reason his emails showed up on my iphone was I hadn't changed the settings there. Closing the original account solved the problem.

Sorting this out required dozens of test emails. Fortunately, the email address that was a problem was my son's and he was very patient about sending test after test. You apparently don't have that luxury. I set everything to leave copies of emails on the server and just watched what happened.

So check the POP and SMTP settings on all your devices to see if they match. If you have recently changed your server, you may have something similar going on.

Good luck. My server tech support people were no help at all. They just kept telling me that the behavior I was seeing was not possible.
