Not getting syncing to work

I'm using Office X with the 10.1.5 update, Mac OS 10.3.5. I have
redownloaded and installed the latest(?) palm desktop (as of Sept 19,
2004 - 4.2.1) and entourage conduit installer (conduit version
10.1.4). I'm working with a Tungsten T. I used to do regular backups
that worked, but replaced my hard drive a few weeks ago - this was my
first syncing.
It didn't work. Have read through everything I could find in these
postings. I have:
deleted ALL palm and conduit information from the hard drive,
including the entourage handheld plist thingy; turned off office
notifications; done a hard reset on the palm pilot (only did that
once), reinstalled (using the new downloads) palm desktop and
conduits; gone into hotsync manager and set entourage to overwrite the
handheld, gone into computer/library/application support/palm
hotsync/conduits/moved the other conduits into the disabled folder and
hit sync. I have done a number of these things in combination
including finally ALL of them...
It goes through all the motions, saying syncronizing entourage conduit
on the computer while the palm pilot says syncing address, then date
book, then to do list (these don't seem to be the entourage names...
and the materials from entourage are certainly not being sync'd. to
the palm pilot.) The first time through, it even took 15 minutes just
on the entourage conduit. The log says everything went fine. I have
tried it with the entourage name conduits (contacts, calandar, tasks,
memos) both in the computer/library/application support/palm
hotsync/conduits/ and in the disabled conduits folder) What am I
missing?
Any suggestions would be appreciated!
