Not Marking Messages Read

I recently installed Outlook 2000 SP3. Before this, the preview pane would
mark a message as read after it displayed it for 0 seconds. Now it will mark
it read once or twice once I restart Outlook, but then it stops. I have
reinstalled Office 2000 to no avail. I am using no rules whatsoever. Is
there a registry edit so I can force this to work the way I want it to? My
system: NT4, SP6. Thanks.

Hello ciresmis:

I'm having the same problem and didn't really think of it as an SP3-related
issue, but it might be. I have a posting dated 1/8/05 in 'Outlook General
Questions'. I haven't gotten a response, either. The mark as read setting
in the preview pane is no longer working at all in my Outlook (except for
once about 3 days ago, the first email I read in the preview pane after a
restart). The capabiltiy sort of gradually faded away until it stopped
altogether. I'm running on Win98SE. At this point I've adjusted to it and
am very adept at ctrl-Q, but am still curious about it. If you hear of
anything further, I'd appreciate an email. Thanks.

Try changing the preview pane mark as read setting and applying, then change
it back to what you used before.

Thank you. I've done that more than several times. It still doesn't work.
bAck when it first started doing this,it might work for one or two emails,
but it doesn't work at all anymore.

Other ideas or an informed answer?
