Not opening as a PPTX

Operating System: Mac OS X 10.5 (Leopard)
Processor: Intel

I used to be able to open powerpoints that had been posted online by a PC. They came up so that I was able to edit them, print them or view the slide show. Now every time I try to open powerpoints they open directly up to the slide show. If I right click end show it quits out not giving me a chance to do anything. Is there some kind of setting to change it back so it will open as a pptx and not pps?
