"Not Read:" response sent on deleting header without my approval

I have set to download "only header for items larger than....." in
Sent/Receive settings -- so for larger mails only headers are downloaded.
That's ok but a new surprising and problem creating issue has arose after
that -- which is that when i delete a header, it sends a "Not Read:" response
to the sender without my confirmation. That creates embrassement. I need to
sometimes delete the mail due to some reasons but I don't want to send such a
response to the sender. What to do?

What version of Outlook are you using? Turn off the feature that
automatically sends read receipts when requested.
