Not receiving *ALL emails sent to Outlook 2003

A user is having a problem where they aren't receiving all the emails known
being sent to them. They are using Outlook 2003. Their .pst file is over
10.6 GB and their inbox contains over 7,500 emails. Everything is kind of
"just thrown together" in their email. I did check, and checked again, to
make sure they can't simply find the email, but it's definitely not there.
Is there any logical reason why they aren't receiving random emails, because
no other users, about 90, in the company have this problem.

Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks!

It is unlikely that 7,500 messages, not a very large number, would need a PST
taking up 10.6GB. That's an average of 1.41MB per message. Unless this
person keeps very large messages (picture attachments and such), it just
doesn't sound like a reasonable size.

Are the senders getting any non-delivery reports? What type of account are
they using? If POP, do they leave copies on the server?

Brian,

Thanks for the reply. The senders are not receiving any non-deliverable
reports back to them. I know they are sending the emails though because they
are in the sent folder in their Outlook, but are not being received by the
user in question. Your correct, the email is configured for POP. Let me
clarify something also. There are well over 7,500 messages in Outlook, its
just 7,500 for the inbox alone. I was skimming through some other folders
and they had over 13,000 in sent items. They have around 50 created folders
in total, with random amounts of messages in each.

Storing messages in the inbox and sent box can certainly create problems and
corruption.

Tom,

Thanks for the reply. That's what I wanted to confirm. There's no reason
other than that that this particular user wouldn't be receiving emails that
everyone else is. I'm out of ideas as to what the problem could be besides
storing the major majority of their emails in the inbox and sent items and
not deleting anything, and I mean ANYTHING.

If you log into the POP server using a web interface, do you see the items
there? if not, then it's a mailbox delivery problem between the sender's mail
server and the recipient's mail server and nothing in Outlook can help that.
I'd not expect it to be a mailbox size issue, either, or the senders would be
getting "mailbox full" NDRs.
