I have a few workstations using either Outlook 2000 SP3 or Outlook 2002 SP3.
All of these machines have Windows XP Service Pack 2 installed. These
machines do not receive new mail notification in outlook and they have to
click between folders for new messges to enter their inbox. I saw some of
the other postings about UDP messages being blocked by the Windows Firewall.
We configure firewall exceptions through Group Policy and I would prefer not
to have to make registry changes to manually code the UDP port on all
machines. I have run outlook.exe /cleanreminders on these machines and the
issue seems go away, but I am not sure how long this fix will work, or if
it will have to be applied regularly. When the Windows Firewall is turned
off, the notifications and messages are delivered normally, without any
problems. What exceptions have to be setup on the Windows firewall besides
Outlook.exe to allow this type of traffic? Thanks.
