Not recognizing multiple file webpage

M

Matt Modica

I recently installed publisher, however, when I open a multiple file HTML
web page I created, it only sees the first page, and not any of the other
pages after that. Internet Explorer does, so I suspected that it was
something in the installation, but I reinstalled it and the problem still
problem was still there. If I try to open any of the HTML pages in
"index_files" folder (the title of the main HTML file is "index"), it just
opens the main page. I suspect the XML file "filelist" is not there for some
reason, but i do not know of any way to get it back.

Matt,

Perhaps I am misunderstanding your issue, but it sounds like you are trying
to open the HTML files with Publisher. To make changes to your website, you
open your original Publisher file, make the changes and then produce new
HTML files. You do not edit your HTML files directly.

I am opening the original HTML file using publisher. I have edited the web
page like this in the past successfuly, but now its not working.

You have heard the old joke about the guy that goes to the doctor and says
that it hurts when I do this, and the doctor says, then don't do that?

Publisher is not a HTML editor, and you have apparently made some sort of
coding error, you will need to go back to your original Publisher document
and generate new HTML files.

Matt,

In case you do not have the original Publisher file, then David Bartosik has
written an article about how to recreate the Pub file from the HTML code.
Most of the solution you seek is at the end of this article: Common Sense
Computing 101 aka "Why in the world would you lose your publisher file?" at
the following link: http://msmvps.com/blogs/dbartosik/default.aspx

OK, I found a solution: I created a new 136 page (+ 2 masters) HTML document
with nothing on it and coppied the "filelist.xml" file to the original HTML
web page.

To make a long story short, I was editing the HTML page with publisher, I
had it backed up on a remote FTP server, I had to reformat/reinstall, I
downloaded it using FileZilla but the XML file was lost somewhere.

Matt, Glad you found a solution...there is always more than one way to do
things. Thanks for posting back.
