"Not Responding" Error Message

I am running Excel 2007 on a new HP Workstation with 4 Gigs of RAM, 300 Gigs
of storage with Intel core 2 duo 2.67 processors using Windows XP Pro x64 Bit
Version 5.2, Service Pack 2. EVERYTIME I open 5 or more Excel spreadsheets
with links to each other and formulas like VLOOKUP or MATCH with ADD and SUM
features and try to enter data or run a calculate...the program freezes and I
get an error message EXCEL (NOT RESPONDING)....the computer will run for 20
to 30 minutes and finally finish and give me back control. HP has sent a tech
to test the hardware and everything including all 4 Gigs of RAM works
correctly, so it is not a hardware problem. Microsoft does not know what to
do next and suggested I go here for help......

Hi Jack,

If you're experiencing this primarily in Excel you may want to use the link below to also post this in the MS Office Excel
discussion group. When posting there please note if this was an upgrade from a previous version and if you're using any add-ins.
