Not saving attachments in sent items

I use "sent items" as an audit trail for ensuring version control of multiple
attachments (2-3mb files) with messages sent hourly. However, I do not want
to save the attachments, just the information of the files (and path) that
were sent. Outlook saves the attachment with the message, so clogging up the
file server with unnecessary copies of files also on the server. There seems
no way to modify this behaviour. If one painfully deletes the attachments
from each "sent item", all record of the attachments is lost. A previous
email programme, Pegasus, kept a record of the file and path in the copy
message.

Is there an add-on which will do this? Presumably Microsoft does not have
one. Redmont must have infinite storage capacity!

I'm sure Redmond's storage is finite.
