Not selecting entire words automatically

In a previous version of Word, under Tools, Options, Edit, there was the option to turn OFF "When selecting, automatically select entire word." This meant you could select more accurately and get rid of the pesky extra spaces that come in when you paste. I can't find it in the new Word for Mac, which I just bought, January 2008.
